Lightning Policy
In the event of lightning, or any other inclement weather conditions, the Program Director will make determinations with respect to suspensions and restarts. In general, Spokane Rapids adheres to the 30-30 rule.
In brief, from the point that lightning is spotted until the time thunder is heard is 30 seconds or less, games should be suspended, and players and spectators should seek proper shelter. Shelter is defined as a vehicle or building properly insulated from lightning strikes. We will wait 30 minutes or more after hearing the last thunder before resuming play.
If one-half or more of a match has been completed at the point of suspension due to inclement weather, it will be considered a completed game. Games which have not completed one-half of the game will resume once the wait period has expired.
Air Quality Policy
Spokane Rapids uses the Air Quality Index for pollutant PM 2.5, reported by the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency to get the most accurate reading for Plante's Ferry Sports Complex.
In the event that the AQI reported by the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency exceeds 150, outdoor activities including practices and games will be cancelled. If the AQI exceeds 150 during your games, we advise our coaches and referees to stop the game for the health of our players.
While the AQI of 150 is our threshold, please use your own discretion as to whether your child should participate, especially if your players have any underlying medical conditions.
Hot and Cold Weather Guidelines
Spokane Rapids recommends using US Club Soccer’s Recognize to Recover guidelines to ensure that our athletes remain safe and healthy during training and games. For detailed information on these recommendations, please refer to US Club Soccer Recognize to Recover Environmental Conditions.
Extra mandatory hydration breaks shall be put in place for temperatures over 89 degrees Fahrenheit. Training or games shall be cancelled for temperatures over 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
