Seasonal Internship Program


The Spokane Rapids seek interns at Plante’s Ferry Sports Complex in the Spokane Valley area. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work part-time (30 hour/week) throughout the spring season months (late February - late May), however we can be flexible on start/end dates and hours. This internship includes a flexible schedule, paid professional work experience, and a diverse community sports and recreation experience. We invite you to apply and join our team!

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES:

The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation. As an Athletics Intern, a typical day might include the following: 

 Support our office/administration or maintenance crew that maintains our sports complex. This may include tasks such as:

  • Field preparation 
  •  Communicating with teams or individuals via email/phone 
  •  Maintaining team rosters or league publications 
  •  Distribute, inventory, or prepare sports equipment 
  •  Assist with special projects as assigned (based off of need and your interests) 
  • Assist with development and planning for future leagues/offerings. 
  •  Supervise youth soccer games

  •  You are a current student pursuing a degree in; athletics, recreation, community programing, or similar. 
  •  You have the desire to learn new skills, contribute to a fun and welcoming culture, and assume new responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 
  •  Must possess a high school diploma or GED 
  •  Able to lift 50 lbs 
  •  License/Certification: Driver's License

Parking Attendants

The Spokane Rapids collect parking at all tournaments held at the park; all proceeds go to park maintenance and improvements. There are several events from late spring to early fall each year; we are always looking to hire attendants. 

Pay: $20-25 per hour 

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES:      

  • Accurately collect cash and give change and parking passes 
  • Manage traffic coming into the facility during busy events 
  • Answer basic questions about field location 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 
  • Must be willing to work in any weather conditions

Maintenance Staff

Job Types: Part-time, Full-time 

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Mowing the complex 
  • Lining sports fields and completing field prep 
  • Disposing of garbage and compacting 
  • Landscaping 
  • Maintaining the facility and restrooms 
  • Repairing equipment as needed 
  • On-site Plantes Ferry representative on Saturdays during the fall and spring season  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to work independently 
  • Reliable transportation 
  • Time Management skills 
  • Willing to work in most weather conditions  
  • Able to lift 50 lbs 
  • License/Certification: Driver's License

SCHEDULE: 8 hour shift Monday to Friday, Weekends as needed

Coaching Soccer Camps

We have 3 School’s Out Summer Camps each year, one each in June, July and August. Each camp lasts 5 days and runs from 9am to 11am. These summer camps are open to all ages eligible for our regular season; players are typically split into 2 or 3 groups by age, with a head coach and an assistant for each age group. For more information about the School’s Out Summer Camps, click here. 

Our Little Rapids program runs for 5 weeks during the spring and fall Spokane Rapids seasons and is aimed at toddlers to develop skills prior to their first eligible year in the program. We typically staff 2 coaches for each Little Rapids session. For more information about the Little Rapids program, click here. 

Pay: $20 per hour 

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

Must be 16 years of age or older. Coaches are expected to use pre-written curriculum for our camps, but must be comfortable adjusting or adding drills/games as appropriate. Different coaching techniques may be needed for different groups of players; coaches should be aware and able to adapt due to circumstances. Must be comfortable speaking loudly in front of large groups of players, explaining drills, and working one on one with players. Previous soccer coaching experience is required.

Concessions

Our concessions stand at Plante’s Ferry Sports Complex is open from 8am to 3pm every Saturday during the fall and spring Spokane Rapids seasons, as well as for several tournament events throughout the year. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to make a little extra cash on the weekends, or has other obligations during the week. 

Pay: $17 per hour

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide pre-packaged products to customers 
  •  Brew and serve coffee, hot cocoa and tea 
  •  Restocking and cleaning concessions stand as needed 
  •  Collecting payment and providing correct change  
  •  Stocking restrooms as needed 
  •  Putting out and putting away signage and Spokane Rapids flags

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older 
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
